Makinde Urges Corps Members Not To Follow Slang, ‘No Gree For Anybody’

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde has urged corps members to obey all camp rules and instructions from camp officials as against the popular “No Gree For Anybody”

He said this at the Swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ (Stream 1) Corps Members deployed to the State, the Governor, who was represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Wasilat Adegoke, noted that youths should always be optimistic about the progress and success of Nigeria despite challenges facing the nation.

The Governor said the future of Nigeria rests on the shoulders of youths.

He said considering how sophisticated, energetic, able, learned and enlightened Nigerian youths are, they shouldn’t join the bandwagon of negativity against the nation.

He said: “It is pertinent to let you know that you will experience the pluralistic nature of our country here. Endeavor to cohabit peacefully, accommodate and tolerate others, always remember our diversity is our identity and understanding binds us together as a nation.”

Oyo NYSC Coordinator, Odoba Oche urged Corps members to see their call-up as a call to national service.

He said Nigeria cannot do without well-trained, mentally ventilated, enthusiastic, energetic and upwardly mobile youths that would power every aspect of national life for the much-needed development.

He stated that activities in the camp include physical training, paramilitary drills, intellectual engagements, citizenship and leadership grooming, lectures on Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training all geared towards making Corps Members to live a well-ordered life and be self- reliant.

He said: “Dear Prospective Corps Members, the people of Oyo State are noted for their rich cultural heritage. And as you will soon discover, the Yorubas are a set of very accommodating, approachable, and generous people.

“There fore, I urge you to grab this unique opportunity of national service to learn about the Yoruba culture and ways of life. I also implore you as expected to do your part in contributing to the

unity, integration and advancement of Oyo state in particular and Nigeria in general throughout your Service Year.

“Let me also make it abundantly clear here that all Corps Members on camp must participate in all camp activities. The three-week period of the orientation exercise is replete with different activities that are aimed at realizing the objectives of the NYSC Scheme.

“It is instructive to note that participating assiduously in all these well-packaged physical and intellectual components of the orientation course is a time tested and effective way of preparing you for post-camp and post service year realities.

“In the light of this, I will enjoin you to exercise caution, be of good conduct and comport yourselfat all times.

“We have put together fascinating and invigorating programme of activities to be facilitated by carefully selected partners, consultants, collaborating agencies midwifed by a team of competent, indefatigable and dedicated camp Officials with whom I can guarantee you a most rewarding time on this Orientation Camp.

“However, I will not forget to point out that the Orientation Course is highly regimented. Camp life is intentionally designed to be disciplined and controlled, a radical departure from what many are used to from their homes and campuses, this is in order to inculcate into Corps Members the discipline that is needed for a successful life.”
