Planting the Future: JCI Ibadan Elite Leads the Go-Green Movement for Sustainable Living

As part of its DREEP (Deepening Roots, Elevating Excellence and Possibilities) Agenda, JCI Ibadan Elite has taken a significant step toward environmental sustainability with the launch of its Go-Green Eco-Gardening Initiative. Unveiled on February 15, 2026, at her February Business Meeting, the project marks the beginning of a long-term movement aimed at promoting climate consciousness, eco-friendly practices, and greener lifestyles among members and the wider community.


The launch event was attended by the Oyo State Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, represented by Mrs. Adeniran-Adediran, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, who emphasised the importance of sustainable agriculture and household food security. Also present was Amb. Alli-Emmanuel Omotola Adekunbi, CEO of Newline Alternative Services, who delivered an engaging and practical session on the benefits of establishing home gardens using recycled materials. Participants were guided through simple, hands-on techniques for setting up and maintaining personal gardens.


A major highlight of the initiative was the empowerment of 15 JCI Ibadan Elite members with eco-gardening kits to enable them cultivate cucumbers in their homes. Beneficiaries included the 2026 JCI Ibadan Elite President, JCIN Amb. Ibukun Otesile; 2025 Past President, JCIN Amb. Ilerioluwa Johnson; 2023 President and current Executive Vice President North West, JCIN Amb. Lanre Alawode; 2022 President, JCIN Sen. Goodness Morakinyo; among other distinguished members of the organisation.


The 2026 President of JCI Ibadan Elite, JCIN Amb. Ibukun Otesile noted that the initiative focuses on cultivating indigenous vegetables, herbs, and ornamental plants while building a vibrant network of eco-gardeners committed to sustainable living.


The project aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).


According to the Chairman of the Go-Green Eco-Gardening Initiative, JC Johnson Olaoluwa, noted that, the next phase of the project will concentrate on expanding participation, strengthening strategic partnerships, and ensuring measurable impact in advancing the SDGs.


With this initiative, JCI Ibadan Elite continues to demonstrate leadership in driving community development and environmental stewardship.
