Kano Civil Servant Returns N40m Left Behind At Hospital
In a remarkable display of integrity, Malam Aminu Umar Kofar Mazugal, a civil servant working with the Kano State Government, has returned a bag containing U.S. dollars valued at over N40 million to its rightful owner at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano.
The money belonged to Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, who inadvertently left the bag in the hospital’s parking lot near a mosque.
According to Mohammed, he had briefly sat near the mosque before rushing to catch a flight, forgetting the bag in the process.
The Leadership reports that Malam Aminu Umar, an employee at the hospital and a resident of the Dala local government area, discovered the bag while clearing the pavements with his colleagues.
He immediately secured the bag while awaiting the return of its owner.
Umar revealed that about an hour after finding the bag, the owner returned and described the bag, upon which he promptly handed it back to him.
The owner, Alhaji Mohammed, expressed gratitude for the honesty displayed by Umar and offered him a monetary reward.
However, Umar declined the offer, choosing instead to provide his phone number, and Mohammed promised to get in touch after his return from abroad.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Aminu Imam Yola, confirmed the incident and lauded Umar’s exemplary conduct.
He further disclosed that the hospital management had submitted Umar’s name to the Kano State Hospitals Management Board for formal recognition.
