Strike: Labour Leaders Re-Open Oyo Govt Secretariat Gate

04 June

Reported by Ayooluwa Afolabi

Following the suspension of the strike called by the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), the state leadership of the unions has reopened the Oyo state government Secretariat.

The leaders had earlier blocked the entrance gates and enforced the sit-at-home directive by going around the various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to chase out workers who reported for duty, succeeding in grounding all activities within the state Secretariat.

But shortly after the new directive on the suspension of the strike was announced, the Chairman of the TUC, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi quickly summoned all the labour leaders, briefed them, and directed immediate compliance with the national directive.

According to the NATION, the Secretariat remains deserted despite the gates being reopened, as at the time of filing this report.

But, people who have businesses within and around the Secretariat are having unhindered access.

Security at the Secretariat was still very tight.

Also, banks are yet to re-open for transactions as at the time of this report.
