Media Entrepreneur Installed as Mayegun of Ofa-Igbo Land
The ancient town of Ofa-Igbo in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State on Tuesday installed Chief Ola Olalekan Olanrewaju, Chairman of Ibadan Media Ltd and Chairman of Lewaj Group, as the Mayegun of Ofa-Igbo Land in a colourful traditional ceremony, with the Olofa of Ofa-Igbo Land, Oba Adeboye Oyelowo, charging him to uphold the dignity of the chieftaincy title and contribute meaningfully to the development of the community.

The installation ceremony, which was held on December 23, 2025, took place at the palace of the Olofa in the Lagelu area of the Ibadan metropolis and attracted traditional chiefs, community leaders, indigenes and well-wishers.

Speaking shortly after his installation, Chief Olanrewaju pledged to deploy his personal resources, influence and experience toward the growth and development of Ofa-Igbo Land and Oyo State at large. He described the chieftaincy title as both an honour and a call to service, noting that he would leverage his position to attract development to the community.
“I will utilise my position as the Mayegun of Ofa-Igbo Land to leverage my modest influence, relationships and experience for the growth and overall development of Ofa-Igbo in particular and the state in general,” he said.
Describing the title as deeply personal, Olanrewaju said he has strong ancestral ties to the community. He explained that his great-grandfather, Ola, founded the Ayegunle Village, a neighbouring community to Ofa-Igbo. At the same time, his family town is Oje Babasale in Ibadan North-East Local Government Area.
“I am a true son of the soil. By every standard, I am an original omo onílù, committed to the progress of this land,” he stated.

Acknowledging the weight of the chieftaincy title, Olanrewaju said he accepted the responsibility with humility, praying for wisdom, good health and the resources required to serve the community effectively.
In his remarks, the Olofa of Ofa-Igbo Land, His Royal Highness, Oba Adeboye Oyelowo, charged the new Mayegun to make a positive and lasting impact on the town. He urged him to work harmoniously with other chiefs and collaborate with prominent sons and daughters of the community to accelerate development.
Oba Adeboye emphasised the need for collective responsibility in repositioning the ancient town, calling on indigenes to return home and contribute to its growth.
The installation ceremony featured prayers, the decoration of the new chief and the presentation of a certificate, among other traditional rites.
Olanrewaju is a media practitioner and community development advocate based in Ibadan. He runs an outdoor advertising agency operating across the South-West under Lewaj Outdoor and is an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Institute of Personality Development and Customer Relationship Management, among other professional bodies.
