Oyo Gears Up for Olubadan Coronation, Bids Farewell to Balogun June 1st

Reported by Ayooluwa Afolabi

The state burial ceremony of the immediate past Olubadan of
Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun has been fixed for Saturday, June 1, 2024, by the Oyo
State government.

This development is the first in the line of activities
leading up to the coronation of the Olubadan designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

The Olubadan seat became vacant after the passing of Oba
Balogun at the age of 81, after a two-year reign.

The state burial for the late Oba Balogun is scheduled to
take place at the main bowl of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, in Ibadan, the
state capital.

Additionally, it was gathered that the coronation date would
be officially announced after the burial ceremony of the late Oba Balogun.

Last month, the Ibadan kingmakers submitted the name of Oba Olakulehin
as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland to Governor Seyi Makinde, through the
Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Subsequent investigations revealed that all necessary
arrangements had been established to ensure a smooth coronation ceremony.

Furthermore, the newly constructed multimillion-naira
Olubadan Palace at Oke Aremo, in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the
state, is scheduled to be inaugurated two days before an as-yet-unspecified
event.
