The Era Of Appointing Caretaker Chairmen Had Gone in Oyo State—OYSIEC Chairman

The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN, On Wednesday, said the era of appointing caretaker chairmen in the local government in Oyo state had gone; hence, there is a need for residents to be concerned about local government councils’ election.



Aare Olagunju, while speaking during the visit of the Commission to the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), reiterated the commitment of the Commission to conduct a credible election by 27th April, 2024.



Olagunju sought the support of the station ahead of the Chairmanship and Councillors Election to have a massive turnout on election day.



He said the Commission sees the need to collaborate with BCOS in sensitizing the people in the nooks and crannies of the state to achieve its mandates.



His Words :" It is not an overstatement that our people are not concerned about Local Government elections, for this , Sensitization and voter’s education have to be continuous.



“Our target is at least to have 50 percent turnout of registered voters, to achieve this feat, we need your station to assist in sensitizing the people at the grassroots on the need to come out on election day as we intend to reach the entire state, the grassroots using your broadcasting network" " The era of writing election results as claimed in some quarters had gone, we are absolutely independent as a commission, and committed to having a free, fair, credible and transparent election “.



Responding, the Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Chief (Mrs.) Dotun Olaitan , said concerted efforts should be made in stabilizing the polity of Oyo state.



She assured the Commission of effective collaboration in the area of compelling programmes, sensitization and voter education.



“The station, management is ever ready, your Commission should not relent but intensify efforts on voter education. Just intimate us of your programmes and activities timely, and we will rise up to the occasion.
