Rackets And Skills On Display As Nigeria Female Squash Players Battle In Invitational Tournament

The Nigeria Top 8 Female Invitational Squash Tournament kicked off in style at the Ibadan Recreation Club 1902, Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria. 

The tournament featuring eight of the best female squash players under the Nigeria Squash Federation umbrella will see the athletes go head to head for an all-expenses paid trip and a wild card spot in the Abbas Family Squash Tournament, Maryland USA. 

Headlining the invitational tournament is the number one ranked female squash player, Busayo Olatunji who recently returned from a one-month training tour in Egypt, Abdulazeez Rofiat(2), Isaac Blessing(3), Akwa Ibom wonder kid, Allison Delight(5), Misturah Durosinlorun(6), Auta Rebecca(7), Jadesola Olatunji(8) and Veronica Sunday(10). 

The matches which is a best of five series kicked off classically in an opening match which saw Abdulazeez Rofiat(2) dominate Veronica Sunday (10), in 3 straight sets (11-5), (11-7), (11-8) to win 3-0. 

The second game had a balance in mind and racket as a young Delight Allison (5) dictated her direction of play to the only female left-handed squash player, Misturah Durosinlorun(6) in 4 sets, (11-9), (8-11), (11-9),(11-5) ending the game 3-1 to the delight of Allison. 

It was quick work in the third game, as Busayo Olatunji(1) carried on with her form from the Prime Atlantic Squash Open where she won a silver medal and dealt with Auta Rebecca(7) in 3 straight sets (11-3), (11-4), (11-1) bringing it to a 3-0 win.

The Fourth game featured Blessing Isaac (3), who called in her experience against a young opponent, and Jadesola Olatunji (8), who is also the younger sibling to Busayo Olatunji. Blessing came from behind to lead the game (9-11), (11-6), (11-5), (11-2) winning 3-1. 

The Female Invitational Squash Tournament features both seniors, U-17 and U-16 players of the Nigeria Squash Federation and will run from the 23rd to the 27th of July 2024.
