72-year-old Ibadan man Charged for Alleged Land Grabbing

15 May

Reported by Ibadan Media

A 72-year-old man, Zechariah Ojo, was docked at a Grade A
Customary Court in Ibadan for purported land grabbing.
It was claimed that Ojo conspired with two  others; Joseph
Ayanwale, 60, and Opeyemi Joshua, 44, to commit the offence.

The three were charged with conspiracy, forced entry, land
grabbing, forgery, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Mr. Philip Amusan, the prosecutor, told the court that the
defendants purportedly committed the offense in 2023 in Oyetola Village,
Badeku, Ibadan.

Amusan alleged that the trio forcibly entered the land
belonging to one Alhaja Abimbola Lawal, domiciled in the area as mentioned earlier.
He stated that the defendants behaved in a manner likely to
cause a breach of peace by forging Lawal\\\'s signature and forcefully seizing her
land.

He said their offences contravened Sections 516, 81, and
249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Mrs. Moji Aworemi, the presiding judge, granted bail to each
of the defendants in the amount of N500,000, along with two sureties each in
like sum.
Aworemi held that the sureties must present proof of three
years of tax clearance and must be blood relatives of the defendants.

She adjourned the case until June 3 for a hearing.
