Traders existing in the dominance of Babaloja-Generals and Iyaloja-General from the five zones of Oyo State celebrates and applauded the court ruling on Friday in Ibadan, which stated that, Alh. Yekini Abass Oladapo popularly known as YK Abass should desist from parading himself as Babaloja General of Oyo and reprimanded six members of the Oyo State Market Advisory Board that were involved in the machination.
According to the judgment delivered by Justice K. B Olawoyin of Ibadan High Court in a suit filed by the aggrieved section of the market and traders associations in Oyo State, the court has nullified the process that produced Alhaji Y.K Abass and warned him to desist from parading himself as the Babaloja-General of the state.
Speaking with newsmen through the Southwest coordinator, Chief (Mrs.) Odunayo Kayode Danjuma who is also a member of the Oyo State Market Advisory Board at an emergency meeting by the concerned elders and well attended by markets leaderships from the five Zones in the State in Ibadan, the traders described the court judgment as a victory for the state’s commerce.
According to Daily Independent, Danjuma described the reported action of Alhaji Y. K. Abass as “Unethical and insulting to over two million market men and women in Oyo State.
“It is shameful and a reflection of ignoble and degenerating society”.
She, however, commended the Oyo State government, the judiciary, and the media for their support, and the traders across the length and breadth of the state for their orderly conduct during their struggle for justice.
She added that traders, market men, and women from all the zones in the state along with our members from the 11 local governments in Ibadan have gathered at the House of Chiefs, Agodi in Ibadan in 2020 to duly elect Alhaji Sunmaila Aderemi Jimoh as the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, and “nothing has changed till this moment. He remains our authentic leader”.
