June 12: Oyo APC Accuses Makinde Of Funding Hoodlums, Breaching Security Protocols - CPS Replies 'Makinde Didn't Organize June 12 Rally, Not Sponsoring Hoodlums
Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of funding miscreants that are responsible for security breaches in the State, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, said that it was mischievous for the opposition party to attempt to rope the governor into an event that was clearly organised nationwide by pro-democracy groups.
APC party in a statement by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Dr Azeez Olatunde said it was not a coincidence that some policemen were cannibalized by hoodlums in Ibadan, the state capital during the #EndSARS protest last year.
Apparently reacting to a viral social media video in which Governor Makinde was seen addressing protesters in Bodija area of the capital city, the APC maintained that the governor was also supporting separatists and those heating the policy needlessly.
Olatunde said, “What else will confirm to the good people of Oyo State that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde is actually the one funding the miscreants that are responsible for insecurity in Oyo State than the June 12 rally in which the governor with his convoy of vehicles was seen clearly amongst them.
“It was not a coincidence that the most remarkable victims of last year #EndSARS where the bodies of policemen that were cannibalized were recorded in Ibadan, Oyo State under the Government of Engr Seyi Makinde.
“It is on record that the only day thus far since assumption of office on 29th May 2019, that Oyo State and in fact Ibadanland had relative peace was the day PDP Southwest Congress was held in Osogbo, Osun State when the goons of Gov Seyi Makinde were “moved en masse” to Osogbo.
“Oyo State Governor’s apology in Igangan after the mayhem of Saturday 5th June 2021 was the just a smokescreen and deceitful character of Gov Seyi Makinde to pool wool over the faces of innocent people of Oyo State.
“It is not a coincidence that the Oodua separatist groups and the so-called Afenifere that are heating the polity that is threatening the unity of Nigeria enjoy good patronage of Engr Seyi Makinde which informed most meetings held in Ibadan.
“Several times we have advised Gov Seyi Makinde to stop politicising security issues in Oyo State but with the daring and damning, senseless June 12th 2021 parade, when the whole Nigeria is thinking of how to bring an end to the insecurity in Nigeria and particularly Oyo State, it has become very clear that Oyo State people need to be delivered from the grip of this feeding bottle government.”
While reacting to the statement credited to the APC, The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, said that it was mischievous for the opposition party to attempt to rope the governor into an event that was clearly organised nationwide by pro-democracy groups.
The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde did not organise the June 12 rally in Ibadan on Saturday, contrary to claims by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor's media aide has said.
The statement read:
"Contrary to the wild claims by the APC, Governor Seyi Makinde did not organise the June 12 protests in Ibadan. He only ran into the protesters at Osuntokun Junction in Bodija and addressed them.
The statement maintained that the APC's lies and desperation to blackmail Makinde have become commonplace that no right-thinking persons take them seriously, warning members of the public to reject “their lies the same way they rejected their party in the state.”
"As the Chief Security Officer of the state, it behoves on the governor to calm down the protesters and ensure they only protest peacefully. And that was what he did.
"What the APC need to do is to advise its members to stop the perennial display of sadism by celebrating every unwarranted incident in the state.
"It is on record that APC elements, rather than join the push to ensure the sanctity of lives and property in the state, have been busy fuelling embers of discord in their bid to gain political benefit from perceived fallout of the crisis they are surreptitiously engineering.
"The APC should forthwith desist from wishing evil for the state. In a short while, the veil will be lifted off those who are fanning the embers of discord."
