“I implore business owners to respect the roads and avoid any sort of encroachment, Fagbemi added.

The Oyo State Road Transport ManagementAuthority, (OYRTMA) has urged traders in the state to desist from displaying their wares along major streets and roads, saying it could cause accidents.

The Executive Chairman, OYRTMA, Akin Fagbemi, said this in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Fagbemi said that men and officers of OYRTMA and its sister agencies today rescued victims of a road traffic accident at FRSC out-post, Iwo Road, Ibadan.

He added that men of the Agency were on the ground to ensure free flow of movement, whilst efforts were made to evacuate the affected articulated vehicle conveying some bottles of drinks.

Fagbemi revealed that initial assessment showed that the vehicle involved suffered brake failure and the driver lost control shortly before a head-on collision with electric polls.

Though no casualty was reported and wounded persons had since been moved to a nearby hospital by OYRTMA Rescue Team, Fagbemi noted that displaying wares along major streets or roads by traders could cause accidents and traffic gridlock.

“I implore business owners to respect the roads and avoid any sort of encroachment, so as to avert calamities of monumental proportions in the rare event of an accident such as this”.
