The prestigious Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) was agog since Monday with professional and amateur golfers converging to compete for honours in the 5th edition of Seyi Makinde Women Support Pro-Am Golf Championship that tee-off on Tuesday. The one-week golf tournament is being sponsored by the executive governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde as his support and contribution to the development of the game of golf in the State. The tournament according to Ronke Adepetu who initiated it was designed to create more awareness for the game of golf and encourage more women into the game, and the initiative that is yielding great results with the tournament entering it’s fifth edition this year. 72 professional golfers that had started the game since Tuesday will end on Friday while amateurs will enter course to compete on Saturday and Sunday according to the organisers. The sum of 5 million will be shared as cash prizes among the professionals while exciting prizes are also on ground to be won in the amateur category as well.the Captain of IGC, Col Ade Sumonun who doubled as the chief host has assured all the golfers of an exciting and pleasant stay in Ibadan with an itch-free tournament in a well secured atmosphere.Meanwhile, Engr. Seyi Makinde the sponsor and other top dignitaries are expected to grace the closing ceremony on the one-week golf tournament scheduled for Sunday.
