Every community, town, city and country is defined by its people.

Ibadan has an undisputable reputable for leading the pack in South-West Nigeria. proof of African authenticity and a City of manyFIRST stalk of being how to the first ever Nigerian University (University of Ibadan), first ever Television station in Africa (NTA Ibadan), first stadium to be built in Africa (Liberty Stadium), first skyscraper in Nigeria (Cocoa House), the first to dualised road in Nigeria (The Queen Elizabeth road, from Mokola to Agodi Secretariat), also the popular University College Hospital (U.C.H).

It is equally important to remember the first Rediffusion in Nigeria; the one channel Radio Station, the Agodi Government Secretariat being the first in Nigeria and the first Modern Parliament that housed the Regional House of Assembly and the House of Chiefs.

The first Housing Estate in Nigeria the Bodija Housing Estate, Ibadan became the home of the first set of Research and Training Institutes in Nigeria; The Forestry Research Institute (1930), the Idi-Ayunre Cocoa Research Institute (CRIN), The Nigerian Cereal Research Institute Moor Plantation (NCRI), the NIHORT (Nigerian Institute of Horticultural Research), the NISER (Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research), IAR&T (Institute of Agriculture, Research and Training), amongst several others.

For a long time however, it remained just somewhere on the list in terms of development and innovations.Today, the narrative is changing and this ancient city, well known for its signature brown roof has witnessed breathtaking milestones. It is beginning to run shoulders with the acclaimed southwest giant, Lagos.

Investors and Entrepreneurs alike have started to maximize the avalanche of opportunities that reside in this city, even technology is taking firm root. In all of this, one thing is clear, Ibadan is no longer a city where you can merely retire to enjoy your wealth but one where gold can be found.

This transformation could not have happened by chance and while we acknowledge that there are several WHYs, it would not have been possible without the people of Ibadan; residents and settlers alike.

Like we do every other year, Ibadan Media is once again saying a big Thank You to all the advocates and creators of a New Ibadan City. We admit that thousands of people deserve this Thank You personally but today we take time to celebrate only 60.

Our criteria for selecting these people:

These are people who have struggled to make a name for themselves despite having little or no supportsystem. There are others who have strategically organized several events that placed Ibadan on the roadmap to success and limelight and some who provide supportor taking their time out to participate in one event or the other in other to encourage the organizer. Also, there are others business owner so to say who are providing mentorship, free training for those that cannot afford the training fee, also those who has their business(es) established in Ibadanemployed people from city to reduce unemployment in the State and those who are adding values in one way or the other to residence life.

We might have chosen 60, but there are hundreds more working to put Ibadan on the world map, to everyone making things happen in Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria at large, please let’s continue and the Lord almighty will continue to strenghten us !!!

On this note, Ibadan Media present to you 2018 Ibadan 60 Most Influential Personalities. The new face of Ibadan has your imprint somewhere on it and this is how best we can say Thank You
