The management of Splash FM, the initiator of the annual Ibadan City Marathon has commended the people of Ibadan for their support and tolerance of the 42 kilometers long distance race that has entered it’s 11th edition this year.
At a press conference held at Media Centre, Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium) today, Head of program of Splash/Lagelu FM, Mr. Tunde Olawuwo has thanks and appreciates Ibadan people for always being in support and cooperating with the management and organisers of the Ibadan City Marathon Race, he further stressed that over 3100 people have registered for this year (2019) relay race, also stated .
Olawuwo pinpoints that, so far there’s no any causality record since inception and for this year edition security has also been well organized together with experienced medical teams, over 20 Doctor’s and Nurse’s will also be on ground to cater for participants health need.
Ibadan Media also gathered that, the registration for this year race which closed yesterday, 11:59pm had over 3,100 people registered compared to last year attendance of 2,300 participants.
The race is not only in 42 kilometres, but there will also be artisan race, group race and run for a cause, a special initiative aimed at raising funds for credible causes. Winners are set to go home with cash prizes worth of three million naira at this year’s event, as usual, shared amongst the first five winners.
Also, the plans are going to make the next marathon race (12th edition in 2020) an international race and we are open to anyone who has better advice and idea to make Ibadan City Marathon Race a better one, Tunde Olawuwo added.
Present at the press conference also was the Chief Executive officer of West Midlands Communications, Mrs. Atinuke Adetunji, Zonal Coordinator Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr. Femi Ajao, Splash/Lagelu FM, General Manager Administration, Mr. Adeshina Alawode and representatives of Ello Waters and WOMAI City, Media veteran, Yemi Sounde and many other journalist from different media outfit in Oyo State.
The Zonal Coordinator Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr. Femi Ajao also added that Ibadan City Marathon Race is certified by Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and also listed on AFN calendar.
Ambassador Romoke Ayinde, CEO Kayromlee Fitness and Gym Centre and founder of newly lauched RACBAR Football Academy, while addressing the gentlemen of the press also implores the rich and famous people in society to put interest and invest in sports activities as that’s the only way we promote sports activities from Nigeria to the world.
The annual 42 kilometres race is the most consistent Marathon race in West Africa and is known for continuously advocating the values of good governance, transparency and accountability.
Our correspondent also noted that some changes have been made, eg: artisans are not going together with athletes running 42km, they will be at the stadium for their race.
